New blog

I decided to abandon this blog and start a new one. This one had too many drawbacks which limited me to post good stuff.
My new blog is here: http://www.dijksterhuis.nu/

Problem fixed, yet feeling stupid

zaterdag 21 juni 2008 by Peter

So, last night (while chatting to Bob ;) ) I managed to find the problem of my disappearing content. I was a messup in the database in the DataTypes. Read more about it here.

On the other hand, I feel also pretty stupid. Why? Because only friday-night I found out that there's a nice feature in Umbraco: Rollback.........I could have spared much time by just using the rollback-function to get my disappearing content back......
Oh well, knowing that my issues seem fixed, I can get back in business now!

Thanks everyone that tried to help fix the problem!

Having some difficulties

woensdag 18 juni 2008 by Peter
Right, I was planning on making some more posts on my blog, but I somehow managed to mess up the blogpackage. Every time I make a new post, something seems to disappear. I have 2 properties, both richtext. On saving and/or publishing the document, 1 of them or even both richtext-fields end up empty after saving ?!
So, before putting any more effort into new posts (been trying for hour to make another post.....) I'm going to try to fix the problem. So, stay tuned, I WILL post stuff about the calendar and about the google-maps when everything is working as it's supposed to be.

Google-maps feature

zaterdag 7 juni 2008 by Peter

In my post about the sites I created with umbraco. On 1 site (www.hizihair.nl) I'm using google-maps to show locations of shops.
There's also another feature: Visitors can put in their postal-code. A script then uses google-maps to lookup the shops that are within a certain distance (a variable the editor can fill in). Try yourself, goto the site, fill in 2132DK in the fill-in top-right and press enter. You'll then get to see the shops within a certain distance from that postal-code, the closest one is top-most one.

Just thought to share, if you want to konw more, drop me a line.

Calendar stuff

donderdag 5 juni 2008 by Peter

Ok, after typing the complete post twice because of my buggy blog-system.......making it a bit shorter now.
Yesterday at Codegarden08 I was surprised, VERY surprised. Some people ACTUALLY use my orginal blogCalendar!

While heavilly outdated, there still seem to be quite a few people interested in! Well, maybe a good time to pick up development again! As you see, the calendar I use my blog, isn't quite like the old one anymore. SO I actually DID some work on it a while back. So, I'm going to pick up the development and see if I can extend it a bit more. If someone is interested, just leave a comment, I'll get back to you on it then!

Not typing anymore......it might disappear again, yes, I have to look into that also ;-)

PS: I forgot to add categories.......guess what, all my text was gone again......luckily there's something like a clipboard!

CodeGarden08

Well, writing from the location where codegarden was held. And as I sit here typing this post, I think to myself: I should have attended CodeGardens from the start. Geez, last 2 days where just fabulous!
Let alone getting to see the actual faces of people with who I have been in contact for 4 years now!

Well, so far my post. Keep an eye out on other blogs, I'm pretty sure there will be enough new posts and VERY interesting stuff!

Cheers,
PeterD

My sites with umbraco

dinsdag 8 april 2008 by Peter

As promised, here are the 3 sites I (well, the company I work for actually) published with umbraco last month. Took a bit longer than I wanted to write this post, but hey, its here now ;-)

Note: all sites are in Dutch language only.

www.cosmo.nl

www.teamkapsalon.nl

www.hizihair.nl

The last one was allready running on umbraco for a year, but it needed a change in lay-out. I also upgraded the version of umbraco used. All sites are using webservices to maintain 'salons', meaning, addresses and opening-information is stored somewhere else and on change of that data, the data on the site is changed also. All in all, I like the sites.

Spam

maandag 10 maart 2008 by Peter

Funny, since I upgraded this blog and moved to use Ajax for comments, I don't need a captcha.
I noticed that still my blog gets a number of spam-attacks per day. But, it gets refused because the viewstate doesn't match. So, for now I don't do anything about it, because mainly what I see is automated post-attempts that post directly to a page without viewing it first. Therefor, they have no viewstate, thus the post gets rejected.

Back to basic

donderdag 6 maart 2008 by Peter

So, after not updating this blog for quite a while, I redid quite a lot.
Not posting here didn't mean I didn't use umbraco. Another post about that will follow.
After messing around with Visual Studio 2008, I started using the latest source from Codeplex. Ruben can verify I did quite a lot of debugging on the mySQL version ;-)
Back to topic.

Nice site about Prototype

woensdag 6 februari 2008 by Peter

Today I stumbled upon a site about the usage of Prototype.
Later this evening I read some articles on the site and I was impressed by the explanations and usage of Prototype!
Just thought to archive for myself and maybe it can be of use for someone else too ;-)
